Montreal, QC and Toronto, ON
May 15 – June 2, 2016 – Deadline: February 14, 2016 (11:59 p.m. CET)
Organizer: Prof. Ante L. Padjen

Aims and Scope of the School:
The IBRO/USCRC (US Canada Region) is pleased to offer advanced neuroscience courses for IBRO Alumni and other young investigators residing in Africa and Latin America. In Montreal and Toronto, students will participate in a specialized neuroscience school that will focus on Cell and Molecular Mechanisms of Neurological Diseases. This opportunity is made possible by the support of the IBRO US/Canada Regional Committee and several Canadian institutions. The School is intended for 12-14 young promising trainees with clear leadership potential in their home country’s scientific community.

Description:
A special feature of the Canadian IBRO Schools is their integration with the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Neuroscience (CAN). This year the 10th Annual Meeting of CAN will be held in Toronto from May 29 – June 1, 2015. It is expected that more than 2000 researchers will attend, and all students enrolled in this School will be full participants of this meeting, presenting their own work on a poster, attending scientific sessions, and participating in interactive sessions with selected speakers. The Local coordinators for the School will be listed shortly.

Who should apply to this School?
Priority will be given to IBRO Alumni residing in Africa and Latin America. The applicants should be fluent in English (written/spoken), have a degree in basic or clinical sciences, and be involved in neuroscience research. Students will be chosen on the basis of their academic records and their potential for leadership in the scientific community of their home country. The criteria include: academic achievements, publications, letters of reference, and in particular, the statement of how this School will benefit the applicant’s own research career.

What costs will be covered for selected applicants?
Students selected to attend the School will have their travel and living expenses (housing and meals) covered by the School. Visas and other immigration arrangements are the responsibility of the students.
