IBRO/IBE-UNESCO Science of Learning Fellowships

The International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) has continued its partnership with the International Bureau of Education (IBE) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to offer a set of 3 new fellowships in 2018, The IBRO/IBE-UNESCO Science of Learning Fellowships. This is part of the IBRO Science of Learning Initiative that aims to support and translate key neuroscience research on learning and the brain to educators, policymakers, and governments.

Applications will be considered from Senior Scientists and Mid-Career Scientists with at least 10 years of experience practicing in the field of neuroscience, preferably in the science of learning. IBRO and IBE–UNESCO will consider researchers from all regions of the world.

The fellows will be hosted at IBE–UNESCO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, so they can learn about policymaking in an international context, as well as receive support with policy vocabulary and messages. A separate contract with each fellow will be signed by the fellow and IBE–UNESCO to cover the duration of their IBRO/IBE-UNESCO Science of Learning Fellowship.

Watch interviews with the 2016 Fellows: Brain Research, Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century

IBRO World Congress 2019: Call for Symposia Open until 30 April 2018

The International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), along with the Korean Brain Research Institute (KBRI) and The Korean Society for Brain and Neural Science (KSBNS), invites the world’s neuroscientists to Daegu, South Korea for the 10th IBRO World Congress of Neuroscience, taking place September 21-25, 2019.

The IBRO World Congress aims to promote neuroscience, increase communication and facilitate collaboration between investigators throughout the world. As its participants come from every neuroscience domain and region of the world, the IBRO Congress offers a richness of content and diverse viewpoints that is unparalleled among neuroscience meetings.

Congress registration and 5 nights on-site accommodation will be covered for selected applicants.

Symposia proposals are welcomed for the following categories:

1. Glia, glia-neuron interactions

2. Homeostatic and neuroendocrine systems

3. Disorders of the nervous system

4. Physiology: neuronal excitability and synapse function

5. Sensory and motor systems

6. Cognition and behaviour

7. Development

8. Physiology: systems/network functions, computational neuroscience

9. Neurotechnology

The International Scientific Program Committee, chaired by  Professor Hee-Sup Shin, Institute for Basic Science (IBS), has been appointed by the IBRO Executive Committee to select content that will address cutting-edge science within a broad field of neuroscience topics. The basic criteria for selection are the scientific interest of the topics, the achievements of the speakers in the field, and their ability to present their work to a broad, multidisciplinary audience. Preference will be given to symposia that cover a topic from several angles and aim to present different views and opinions, rather than presenting the work of collaborating groups. A balanced geographic distribution is a priority as well as a representation of both genders.

Online submission for symposia and mini-symposia proposals will be open until April 30, 2018.

Latin Amercian Trainin Program 2018: INSCRIPCIONES ABIERTAS

The Latin American Training Program is a comprehensive, yearlong online program that provides a unique training opportunity for young investigators from across Latin America and the Caribbean

The fifth year of the Latin American Training Program provides webinars, recorded content, and online discussions which incorporate cutting edge science and professional development topics. Support for LATP is provided by The Grass Foundation, the Latin American Regional Committee of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), US/Canada Regional Committee (US/CRC) of IBRO, and the selected host institution.

Fifteen selected trainees from the program will also participate in a three-week course from August 26 – September 15, 2018 at the University of Valparaíso in Chile. Travel, lodging, and meals are covered as part of the fellowship. The course topic is, “From Molecules to Behavior: The Quest for New Treatments of Neuropathologies.” The course will bring together top faculty from across the region and the world to provide participants with high-quality lectures, lab exercises, and training on vital professional development topics.

FENS-IBRO Young Investigator Training Program – Lab Visits

German neuroscience PIs invite young investigators from abroad  for a 2 – 3 weeks stay to their lab. Stays in local laboratories will allow young guest                                            researchers to meet senior and junior scientists, get familiar with the laboratory’s environment, facilities and techniques in different fields of neuroscience, to favour future exchanges and networking.

7 labs in 13 German cities offer in total around 45 slots (see list below). This program is generously supported by IBRO-PERCwhich provides grants to partially cover the costs of the stay and additional travel within Germany.

Applications must be submitted via an online form. Only those applications will be considered, applications directly to the labs will not enter the selection procedure.

• You are a Master or PhD/MD student or young postdoctoral fellow (max. 8 years after receiving PhD or MD)
• You are not working in a German laboratory
• You are registered at the FENS Forum 2018
• You have submitted an abstract as first author to the FENS Forum

In addition, a motivation letter and a letter of recommendation are required.

For application please use the online form.

The selection procedure will be based on the qualification and the educational background of the applicant.

Please note that the application for a lab slot does NOT replace the registration for the FENS Forum. Registration for the FENS Forum is independent from the application for a lab slot and must be performed separately.

The deadline for application for both is February 13, 2018.
